CONCOURS INTERNATIONAL DES JEUNES CRÉATEURS 1998
Competition in Paris, France
In 1998 I was one of about 7 US student designers to compete in Paris, France along with about 13 countries. I had only about 1 year sewing experience. Each designers garment had to be inspired by the theme The New Millenium.
My design was made with lenticular plastic and oaktag paper inspired by Chinese Origami paper sculpture. The idea was to bring awareness to how technology is changing in the materials we use for garment making by using paper which comes from a natural source to plastic that is manmade using the lastest technology.

NECESSARY TABOO 2010
"Waste Not Want Not"
This garment was created for the Necessary Taboo Show held at the Creative Lounge inpsired by Toyota located in Wicker Park in Chicago! 14 designers were challenged to create a garment/art piece inspired by a taboo.
The Taboo I chose was dumpster diving for food..I had watched a documentary about people that got loads of food from dumpster diving and was intrigued.
I decided to base my garment style around Marie Antoinette because she was known for wasting and spending money and most of the reason why people go dumpster diving is because they hate to see so much food go to waste and save thousands of dollars on groceries every year!
This garment is made from black trash bags, dorito bags and aluminum pop cans.
*The wig and red crinoline were brought separately.

Now the hitchhiking musician is on the hunt for Mierda and his thugs. With help from Buscame, his new favorite womans Carolina, and fellow "marichichis," Mari seeks to take down the cigar chopping villain once and for all.
Can a mariachi guitar player overpower such a strong militia with just his street smarts and stunning good looks? Will Mari defeat the demons of his nightmares while looking for own true love? And will his little amigo, Nino, ever learn to become a real mariachi player in such a corrupt town?
Don't miss the answers to these questions, the beautiful womans of Gorilla Tango Burlesque, and maybe even a small cameo by Quentin Tarantino himself! ¡Arriba! Ages 18 and over only.
